About T.A.R.P.
T.A.R.P. Inc. Center for Independent Living is a nonprofit in Tennessee, advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities since 2005. Predominantly staffed by people with disabilities, T.A.R.P. provides cross-disability services and promotes self-determination and active citizenship. Its funding comes from the Administration for Community Living US Department of Health and Human Services, the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services, and local support.
T.A.R.P. Inc. Center for Independent Living is an IRS 501 (c ) 3 nonprofit, non-residential, charitable organization directed and staffed by individuals with disabilities, working to promote the dignity, independence and civil rights of Tennesseans with disabilities. Our goal is to offer cross-disability services, the promotion of active citizenship and working with others to create services that support self-determination and full participation in community life. Founded in 2005.
T.A.R.P. is the first truly Rural -based Center in Tennessee, serving Eight Counties in Northwest and North-Middle Tennessee including: Benton, Dickson, Henry, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Stewart and Weakley Counties

- The Board of Directors and Staff are people with significant disabilities both visible and invisible.
- The ADA defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity. This includes people who have a record of such an impairment, even if they do not currently have a disability.
